Debi Ryan: Moo Cards

Our Current Rebel Challenge is all about Moo's I've been wanting to make some of these little chaps for a while, so this was the perfect chance.

I decided I liked the idea of sets of moos, which I would then add to cards. For my first trio, I used the yacht  from Beach Babes, and then popped the yacht in 3 different scenes, Summer seas, a storm and by Moonlight. I've then added them to a simple Kraft card base.

Next I did hearts:

For this Love duo, I stamped the hearts from Snow Hugs, and then coloured them with red and gold. I love how they turned out so lush, and added more red gold and black to form the card.

Check out the Rebel challenge post for more moos and details.

Helene Huber: Beach Tag

This is Rogue Redhead stamps meets Ranger  products.   You may recognize some of the tag techniques and the basic design found this June on the internet (should I mention the initials TH?).  I, of course, added my own twist with the sandy shore and the use of RRD stamps.

I stamped the girl, shell, and sentiment on canvas paper with Coffee Archival Ink.  I colored with Ranger Distress Markers and a water pen.  All images are from the Beach Babes stamp plate as is the sand background stamp below.

I've tried many techniques to create sand and I really like the look of this one.  I used my new Ranger Emboss It dabber directly onto the sand background stamp; after stamping, I heat set Ranger antique linen distress embossing powder.  I think it really looks like wet sand at the beach and it really brings out the sand design of this stamp.

The tag itself is the swipe, spritz, and swish method of covering a tag with distress paint, distress ink pad, and distress stain.  To create more of a feeling of water and sky at the top of the tag, I stamped the handwritten music sheet background stamp with Ranger distress ink in Tumbled Glass.  I chose this stamp from the Behind the Scenes plate, because the girl is hearing the sounds of the sea (music) coming from inside the seashell.

Barbara Washington: Love Notes

This month's Challenge is to create 3x3 inch love notes. These are so much fun to make that I couldn't stop at just one. My first card was a bit of an experiment. All of the stamps I used are from Beach Babes. I used broken china distress paint for the background and then stamped the background stamp using water into the paint. Since distress paint reacts to water while still wet, I got an image. I then stamped over the background using a darker ink. I stamped the boat and colored it with distress markers. I used the out of the Nestie technique to cut it out and added a border. I stamped the sentiment in the top corner with archival ink. For fun I added some bling bubbles.
My second card is somewhat CAS. I cut a heart out of my front panel and layered it over the hand written music stamp from Behind the Scenes. The flower and sentiment are from Floriculture.
There's still plenty of time to join the challenge fun. These cards are addictive.

Debi Ryan: Summer Blues

As you can see, I'm still loving using my ink sprays, here I've sprayed them onto Glossy cardstock, and then used a paper towel to soak up the excess, and to give a swirly look. I've then stamped some of the images from the Beach Babes set, using black Archival ink.

Enjoy the rest of the week, Debi x

Simple Set Saturdays: Vintage Valentines

We're celebrating Valentine's Day on our Simple Set Saturday this month! I generally do not make traditional valentines and this year is no exception. I've gone quite simple using only standard cardstock, glossy paper and watercolor paper. I kept the color palette simple - 2 shades of pink and 3 shades of brown. Layering a backgrounds, one waterstamped and the other traditionally stamped gave teh backgrounds a lovely depth and complexity of texture.  I did not use any cupids or hearts and instead relied on vintage images and romantic sentiments.

To keep the required time to create these nice and tight, I organized my tasks. I started by cutting the glossy paper into 4 panels measuring 4.0" x 5.25". For the next step, I did each panel individually as I did not want the ink to by too dry. I used a direct-to-paper inking technique with some Victorian Velvet Distress Ink on the glossy panel and smoothed out the result with a cotton ball. I choose my first backgound and spritzed it with water. I pressed it onto the distress inked glossy panel and then removed the stamp. A lovely inverse of the background stamp appeared. I repeated this procedure with the other three panels, choosing a different background stamp each time. I set these aside to dry a bit.

You can see in this first card the layered background.  For this card, I waterstamped the Bubble Wrap background from the new Behind the Scenes collection and overstamped with the Sandy Beach background from Beach Babes.  The boat and sentiment are also from Beach Babes.

Stamps: boat, sentiment  and Sandy Beach background from Beach Babes;

Here you can see a detail of the two texture backgrounds layered together.

My next step was to stamp my desired vintage images onto the watercolor paper. I used Timber Brown StazOn ink so that I could immediately start watercoloring them with an aquabrush and my distress inks. I wanted to keep a minimal color palette so I chose to use the Victorian Velvet again with Spun Sugar, Tea Dye and Vintage Photo. The last two colors remain on my craft table as go-to colors. I usually stamp the inks I want to watercolor with onto an acrylic block so that I can pick them up easily and I don't damage my ink pads.

You can see on this next card that I kept the watercoloring merely a hint of color.  I just wanted to give some dimension to the images.  For this card, I had waterstamped my Handwritten background (Behind the Scenes)  and overstamped with the Handwritten Music from the same set.  The couple is from Just Sayin' and the sentiment is from Snow Hugs.

Stamps: old couple from Just Sayin', sentiment from Snow Hugs;
Bubble Wrap background from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

While my first round of painted ink was drying, I overstamped my second background images onto each of my four glossy panels using Victorian Velvet again. As the direct-to-paper and sponging had laid a light hue of color on the panels, the full strength version of the ink gave wonderful contrast.

The background below is the inverse of the one above.  I waterstamped the Handwritten Music and then overstamped the Handwriting background.

From here, I added a second layer of detail to my watercolored images. I like to let them dry and then apply my next layer of ink to give a little shading without having to use additional colors.

You can see the extra shading on my third card.  I used Dot and one of the sentiments from Milliner Misses.  To cut down the whiteness of the watercolor paper, I used a soft wash of Spun Sugar around the image.

Stamps: Dot and sentiment from Milliner Misses; Handwriting and Handwritten Music
backgrounds from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

To finish off the cards, I cut 4 card bases from burgundy cardstock. I used an additional sheet of cardstock to mat my images which I had cut into ovals and circles. When matting my images, I offset my images slightly for a little different look.

I especially liked the look for my final card, a simple floral valentine.  To create this card, I had waterstamped the Sequin Waste background (Behind the Scenes) and added the Almanac background from Relish Reading overtop.

For my images, I chose the cosmos blossom and "Je t'aime" from Floriculture and added very minimal color.

Stamps: Cosmos blossom and sentiment from Floriculture; Handwriting and Handwritten Music

Once assembled, I really liked the unified color and look. Hope you do as well!

trisha too: a tiny book full of big thanks

Oh yes, it's true, I may have gone overboard with all these tags, but it IS
Thanksgiving today here in the states, and I DO have a lot to be thankful for.

Believe it or not, all those tags fit inside this tiny book . . .
(there are more pics on my blog, by the way!)

Here's the Relish Reading fellow--used that set, plus Beach Babes,
Milliner Misses, and Nature Notes.  And the big honeycomb
background from Gettin' Grizzly, but that's hard to tell, as it was
used when making the monoprint papers.  You can see all of those
sets HERE.  Made any mini books or tags lately?  Either would be

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Stephanie Severin: Sail Away

I combined the dot from Bits & Pieces (remember, the current Rebel Challenge is Go Dotty! ... so break out those dots) with a sentiment from Beach Babes using colors from Dynamic Duos and a layout from the new CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge.

The little wooden sailboat is from Studio Calico ... and I added a tiny strip of washi tape to finish the design.

Debi Ryan: Monochrome

Just a nice and simple monochrome card for you today.

I've wet embossed this image from the Relish Reading set, then watercoloured using different pink tones. I added a sentiment from the Beach Babes set and some pearls.

Simple Set Sunday: Scene Peeks

Simple does not need to be boring and flat doesn't need to be yawn-inducing.  Today, I am playing with some one-layer cards while playing with the idea of dimension.

I started experimenting when I was playing with my Nature Notes set.  I wanted to see the woman in front of those lovely trees and I was fiddling around with how to mask it when I thought of creating a window.  An idea was born.

In this first card, I used the stamped borders of both the image on the front of the card and the image on the inside to contain my little scene.  I stamped the inside image first and,  placing my card on my tuled cutting mat, I aligned the image that would be on the front of the card.  After closing the card and rechecking (truthfully about six times) the position of my focal image, I stamped the woman on the front of the card.  I colored both images with copic markers and then set about cutting out my window with some sharp scissors.

This is the view when the card is standing.  You can see both the front image and a peek of the scene behind...hence the name of this post.

Stamps: woman and sentiment from Nature Notes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

For this card, I decided to use two sentiments - one inside and one outside.  When the card is open you can see the lovely autumn scene behind our lovely young woman.

Stamps: woods scene and sentiment from Nature Notes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I was so happy with how this card turned out that I made a couple more and realized how versatile this little format could become.  This is a card using the Getting Grizzly set.  My thought was to show this slightly grumpy bear a little apart from his pals in the tree.  I used my oval cutting guide to create the oval that surrounds him with a black marker.  I did not want to create any folds or scrunched bits when I cut out the "excess" around each image, so I used a hole punch to give me a starting place in the white space that I would be removing.

Stamps:Grumpy bear and sentiment from Getting Grizzly (Rogue Redhead Designs)
For this inside of this one, I decided to use the group of bears in the tree.  I colored the sky in a very soft blue and let it have an undefined edge to keep it all "natural" feeling.  The bee is there because I just love that bee!

Stamps:Bear group and sentiment from Getting Grizzly (Rogue Redhead Designs)

For my final play with this format, I dug out my Beach Babes set.  Summer is slowly setting for the year, so I decided to create a sunset seaside scene.  The boy is on the beach in the foreground looking out to sea.  The sentiment reads "My life is like a stroll upon the beach, as near the ocean's edge as I can go".  It's a quote I love by Thoreau.

Stamps: beach boy and sentiment from Beach Babes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

On the inside of the card, you get the full view of what he was looking at - a sailboat on a sunset-lit backdrop.

Why not play with creating your own scene peeks?  I would love to see what you create!

Barbara Washington: Warm Wishes

It's a beautiful day today and I was inspired to create something with the beach in mind. I immediately decided that RRD Beach Babes was the perfect stamp set to work with. I chose papers to represent the beautiful waters of the tropical oceans. The circles on the background panel were made by first stamping the sand background stamp and then diecutting the circles. I then stamped the sailboat, colored it with distress markers, and diecut it using the outside the circle technique from technique junkies. I then stamped the anchor, cut it using a circle die and inserted it in the top of the card as a tent topper. The basic card is 4 1/2" square. With the topper the card is 5 1/2" tall, so it fits into a regular envelope. Sending warm wishes for happy sailing!

"triangle square" card by Joanne Wardle

I saw the idea for this shape of card on the create and craft channel ( I think it was Debbie Moore) and thought I'd like to give it a try. I like the way the whole card is made out of just the front piece.

I actually made this with really thin card as a trial and was surprised by how well it stood up, so thought it would be useful as a quick notelet.

I wanted the square part to stand out from the border when standing, so I masked off the border and inked with tattered rose distress ink. I added the splashy background by using the background stamp from the beach babes plate. I used it unmounted and rolled it up so I could just "roll" the pattern onto the areas I wanted.

The flower is from the floriculture plate and the words are from the bits and pieces set.

Jean Franks Beck: Beach Vacation Bookmarks

We've recently taken a vacation to our favorite spot on the North Carolina shore - Topsail Island - and I've once again taken tons of pictures!  One of my favorite things to do is sit on the balcony of our rented beach house with some iced tea and a good book.  I decided it would be fun to combine my photos with my love of stamping and reading....  and make some bookmarks using my own personal photos from the shore.

I started by cropping some of my favorite scenery photos to 2.5 x 6 inches, then printed them out on heavy cardstock.  Next, I stamped images from the Beach Babes set where I wanted them to appear on the photos.  I don't color this version in - it's just to capture some details (like the handles on the girl's sand bucket and shovel above) that I don't want to attempt to cut out.
Next, I stamped each image onto some white cardstock and colored them with Copics.  I cut them out and pasted them exactly over the top of the image I had stamped on the photo bookmarks.

To finish them up, I stamped a few little extra images, like the birds on the one above, added some trim, some distress inks around the edges, and some ribbon to stick out the top of the book.  Very simple, and a great way to save those vacation memories!
